Jack Dempsey Masterson – Obituary

JackMr. Jack Dempsey Masterson, age 91, of Florence, passed away Friday, April 5, 2013.
The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. today at Wood Avenue Church of Christ. The family will visit with friends at the church from 1 p.m. until service time. Burial will follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
Jack was a believer in Jesus who cared, loved, and served as His believers should. He was a loving, faithful husband who with Stella defined “good marriage” for nearly 70 years and was a father who taught his children to seek truth and do right and loved them and their families intensely. He was a friend who truly cared for people and sought to serve them and a citizen who dealt fairly and honestly with everyone he met.
He is survived by his wife Stella Masterson; a son, Jerry Masterson and wife Celia of Brentwood, Tenn.; a daughter Kathy Blackburn and husband Barry of Lanett: grandsons, Brian Masterson and wife Jennifer and Lee Blackburn and wife Kirstin; granddaughters, Susan Womack and husband Stephen and Bonnie Whitfield and husband Ben; nine great-grandchildren.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents Annie and Robert Edward Masterson; sisters, Sally Sprinkles and Stella Bowling; brothers, Everett Masterson, Vinnett Masterson, Ralph Masterson, James Masterson and Gaines Masterson.
Pallbearers will be Brian Masterson, Benford Masterson, Stephen Womack, Tom Longshore, Lee Blackburn, Kenneth Westmoreland and Mike Coston.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Campbell, Bill Wynne, Tom Ed Masterson, Wayne Masterson, Lewis Masterson, and the men of the Sunday morning Bible class at Wood Avenue Church of Christ.
Please consider memorials to Mars Hill Bible School or the Jack and Stella Masterson Memorial Fund at Lipscomb University.
The family offers their thanks to the staff of Mitchell-Hollingsworth Rehabilitation and Nursing Center who waited on and helped dad serve mother and then helped him face his own challenges and to the residents of Keestone Assisted Living of Florence who made his last six months so pleasant and enjoyable.
