Jack Berry Reid, resident of Florence, died Sunday, November 15, 2015 after a brief illness. There will be a Celebration of Life service on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at Trinity Episcopal Church at 1:00 p.m. Visitation with the family will be 11:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday.
Jack was preceded by his parents E.B. Reid and Eula Eastep Reid. He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Merry Lou Arthur. He is survived by his sister, Jo Ann (Irwin) Bell; sons Jack (Kim) and Mark; his daughter Jeanne (Tom) Shearer and grandchildren Reid and Ben Shearer.
Jack was born in Cherokee , AL and attended and graduated with a B.S. in Agriculture from Auburn University in 1955. He then served in the Army for 2 years and after his military commitment, settled in Cherokee, AL and became a home builder, moving to Florence in the late 60s.
He was a member of the Shoals Home Builders Association since 1971 and served in all offices, including President in 1972, 1980 and 1986. He served on the Home Builders Association State Executive Board 1986-1987.
He was a member of the National Home Builders Association since 1976 and attained Life Director status in 1996. He was in the Hall of Fame for both local and Alabama State Home Builder Associations. He was the 2003 Alabama Home Builders Association Hershel Trimm Builder of the Year. He was a member of the Alabama Home Builders Licensing Board since 1995.
Jack was a very involved member of Trinity Episcopal church since 1969, where he served in numerous leadership roles, including Junior & Senior Wardens, Treasurer, Head of Endowment, Cursillo staff, and Kairos ministry.
Jack loved the lord, his church, family and many friends. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed by all who knew him and had the pleasure to work with him.
