J.W. Thorne, 95, of Red Bay, Alabama, died Monday, March 9, 2015, at Helen Keller Hospital, Sheffield, Alabama. He was born in Sherman, Mississippi and was a factory worker for 25 years. He attended Red Bay Free Will Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II.

Services will be Thursday, March 12, at 2 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, Alabama, with Brother Steve Lindsay officiating. Burial will be in Burnout Cemetery, Vina, Alabama. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Alabama, will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his wife of 66 years, Euple Thorne, Red Bay, Alabama; two children, Kathy Thorne Ivy, Red Bay, Alabama, and Jerry Wayne Thorne (Beverly), Vina, Alabama; three grandchildren, Brad Ivy (Sonya), Heath Thorne (Tiffany), and Amber Hill (Larry); five great-grandchildren, Nicole Earnest, Jeremiah Thorne, Joshua Thorne, Elijah Hill, and Weston Hill; one great-great-grandchild, Cayson Wayne Rayburn; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Oscar Thorne and Maxie McDonald Thorne, five brothers, Elmer Lee Thorne, Leslie Thorne, Junior Thorne, Marvin Thorne and Georgie Thorne, one sister, Estelle Smith, and a son-in-law, David Ivy.

Pallbearers will be Brad Ivy, Heath Thorne, Gary Lindsey, Larry Hill, Chris Brazil, and Sonny Martin. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Ivy, Bill Nabers, Zack Woods, Trent Woods, Austin Holland, and Bobby Patterson.

Visitation will be today, 6-9 p.m., at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Alabama.
