  J. Noel Long Profile PhotoJ. Noel Long passed away September 9, 2024, after a well fought illness. He was born July 25, 1943, to the late William and Onorine Long. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Nita Yarbrough; brother-in-law, Cliff Yarbrough; parents-in-law, Helen and Stan White; and nephew, Chuck Camp, Jr.

Noel is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Long; two sons, Chad Long (Lynne) and Jebb Long (Laura); grandchildren, Luke Daniel and Kinley Grace; and brother, Bill Long.

His family moved to Jackson, TN when he was in eighth grade. He attended Southside High School and later went on to graduate from the University of TN with his bachelors degree. He worked the training table for the football team and remained an avid UT Volunteer fan. He also attended Memphis State University for hours above his masters degree.

Noel was active in the Jackson school system as a teacher, coach, principal, and assistant administrator. He spent countless hours in both the classroom and on the football field inspiring numerous children and athletes in Jackson. He was a Midsouth Golden Glove boxing champion and a member of the Lions Club. He was an active member of East Trinity Methodist Church. Noel loved to spend time with his sons on the ball fields, training his hunting dogs, hunting, and fishing.

A celebration of life service will be held 12:00 p.m. Saturday, September 14, 2024, in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the service time. Dr. Skye McCracken to officiate.

We would like to thank family, friends, and neighbors who helped us so many times and the caregivers who were so compassionate.
