J.D. Tankersley, age 86, of Florence, passed away Friday, June 29, 2012.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, July 3, at Spry-Williams Funeral Home, Florence. The funeral service will follow at noon in the funeral home chapel, with Brother Brian McIntyre officiating. Interment will be at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Mr. Tankersley was retired from Union Carbide as an electrician and as instructor at Muscle Shoals Technical School.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Tankersley, and parents, Ed and Glady Tankersley.
Survivors include his children, Marva Kaye Townsend (Billy), of Nashville, Tenn., Karen Joan Chamblee (David), of Orange Park, Fla., Timothy Dale Tankersley (Walonda), of Killen; sister, Bobbie Huntley (Alton); brother, Jackie Tankersley (Linda), all of Leoma, Tenn.; cousin, Larry Hardeman (Christine); special cousin, Glenda Owens (Bill); grandchildren, Chuck Townsend (Darlene), Chris Townsend, Jennifer Friday (Scott), Jeff Chamblee (Robin), Jason Chamblee, Britney Locklear (Eric), Allison Lee (Wesley) and Taelor Tankersley; great-grandchldren, Tanner Chamblee, Kari Chamblee, Sam Friday, Sam Locklear, Wyatt Chamblee, Westin Lee, Amelia Friday, Benjamin Townsend and Emily Townsend.
He loved his family and his family loved him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital .
