J.C. "Carley" Atkins Funeral service for J.C. “Carley” Atkins, 86, will be Sunday, May 26, 2024 at 4:00 PM at Somerville Church of God with Bro. Michael Gunter and Bro. Pearl Jenkins officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. His body will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Somerville Church of God Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, May 26, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Somerville Church of God.

Mr. Atkins died on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Summerford Nursing Home. He was born November 21, 1937, in Morgan County, to Robert Ernest Atkins and Betty Mary Elizabeth Williams Atkins.

Carley served in the Alabama National Guard. He also worked for Fruehauf as an Aluminum Buyer in the Purchasing Department and was a Home Builder. He built many homes in the the Decatur and surrounding areas and was the happiest when he was on his farm.

Carley was saved at a Billy Graham Crusade and was baptized by Bro. Harold Coomer. He loved the Lord and his faith never wavered. He loved his family with all his heart.

Preceding Carley were his parents, Robert and Betty Atkins and siblings, Charles W. Atkins, J.W. Atkins, Lamar Atkins, Cora Ella Aldridge, Dolly Shelton and Bobbie Jennings.

The family would like to offer a “Special Thanks” to the Staff at Columbia Cottage of Hartselle, the staff of Decatur Morgan Hospital (1st and 2nd Floor), to Summerford Nursing Home and to Hospice of North Alabama, for the wonderful care he was given.

Survivors include:

Son – Patrick Atkins (Kim)

Daughter – Dawn Lowe (Dustin)

Sisters- Dianna Gurley
Carol Parsons

Two Grandchildren – Jaxon and Ashton Atkins

One Great Grandchild – Corella Atkins

Pallbearers will be Tim Aldridge, Billy Owens, Mark Owens, Philip Gurley, Barry Cooper and Don Marsh.
