J.B. Barbee, 81, a resident of Summerville, Georgia passed away on January 23rd, 2021. Mr. Barbee was
born on April 11th, 1939 in Stevenson, Alabama to Hugh and Stella Barbee. He grew up in Stevenson,
and attended Stevenson High. He joined the US Navy following high school, and served honorably for
six years, principally aboard the aircraft carrier USS Hancock as an Ordnanceman. Following his time in
the Navy, Mr. Barbee earned an Associate’s Degree at Northeast Alabama Community College, and
spent his adult life working both as an electrician in steel mills in northern Indiana, and in textile mills in
Chattooga County, Georgia. He was an avid Alabama Crimson Tide fan, and loved spending time with his
grandkids and his dog, Buddy.
Mr. Barbee was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Victory and Stella Mae Barbee, his sisters,
Elizabeth Childers and Betty Koozer, and his daughter, Deborah Barbee Peace. He is survived by two
daughters, Jacqueline Barbee and Candace Brown (Dennis), four sons, Michael Barbee (Dee), Steve
Barbee (Paula), James Barbee (Danielle), and William Barbee, as well as 11 grandchildren, 14 greatgrandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Barbee will be interred in the Stevenson, AL City Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday at 1:00 CT at
Rudder Funeral Home in Stevenson, followed by a graveside service at 2:00 CT.
