Isaac Litton Smith Isaac Litton Smith, age 85, passed away peacefully at his home on 747 Goliath Place in The Villages, Florida, on July 13, 2024. Born on September 23, 1938, in Russellville, Alabama, Isaac lived a life rich in accomplishments and service to his country and community.

Isaac was a proud graduate of the University of Alabama, where he earned his Doctor of Philosophy on May 12, 1974. His academic achievements paved the way for a distinguished career as a Chemical Engineer. For over 40 years, Isaac made significant contributions to the Ethyl Corporation, demonstrating dedication, innovation, and expertise in his field.

Beyond his professional career, Isaac also served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Rising to the rank of Captain, he was decorated with several commendations, including the Missileman’s Badge, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Medal with one Service Star, and the Meritorious Unit Citation. He was honorably discharged on August 10, 1968.

Isaac’s love for learning and discovery extended beyond his professional life into his personal interests. He was an avid golfer and dedicated researcher, passions that brought him joy and fulfillment throughout his life.

Isaac’s commitment to service was evident in his active involvement as a serving member of the American Legion, where he made lasting contributions to his community and fellow veterans.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia “Pat” Smith; his son, David Smith; his daughter-in-law, Lisa Smith; his sister, Billy Sue Poss; and his brother-in-law, Jimmy Poss. Isaac was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas “Tom” Lee Smith. He was the loving son of Sussie “Hirschey” Smith and Willie Webster Smith.

A memorial service to celebrate Isaac’s life will be held at Franklin Memorial Gardens, 2710 Waterloo Rd., Russellville, AL 35653, on July 24, 2024, at 2 pm. Isaac will receive a full honors military burial conducted by the American Legion of Alabama.

Isaac Litton Smith will be dearly missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and those fortunate enough to know him.
