Irving Tarbox, 89, of Huntsville, AL passed away peacefully on September 29, 2023, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Irving grew up in Flint, Michigan and Detroit, Michigan. He was in the army for 20 years, retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 in calibration, and then worked in civil service for an additional 20 years. He spent a number of years during this time in Huntsville, Alabama and ultimately retired in this area as he never wanted to shovel snow again. During his career he traveled the world. While in the US army he was stationed in Italy, Germany and Okinawa and multiple locations in the United States. In his civil service career, he served in Tehran, Iran as well as Huntsville, Alabama. He was a Vietnam War veteran and a lifetime member of the Plymouth Michigan Masonic Lodge. He greatly enjoyed gardening, scuba diving, ice skating, cribbage, pinocle and darts. Irving will be dearly missed and always remembered.
Irving was predeceased by his father, Charles Tarbox, and his mother, Helen (Novotny) Tarbox. He is survived by his wife, Susan Tarbox; his sisters, Charlene Hangsteffer, Gay Miller and Patricia Jackson; his sons, Thomas Tarbox and Gerald Tarbox; his daughters, Nancy White, Gail Sikes and Merilind Duggan; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Irving’s family is having a celebration of life in his honor as opposed to traditional funeral services. We request all of Irving’s loved ones to join us in celebrating his adventurous life at 4525 Colewood Circle, Huntsville, Alabama on Saturday, October 7 at 2 p.m.
