Irma Dean Austin, 83, of Scotts Hill, departed this life Thursday morning, November 27, 2014 at Decatur County General Hospital in Parsons.
A native of Decatur County, she had worked as a lineperson with the Zenith Corporation in Chicago, Illinois prior to becoming disabled. Previous to that, she worked several years with the Milan Arsenal. She was born March 19, 1931 to the late A.C. and Mae Creasy Austin and lived in Chicago for over 20 years, moving back here in 1981. Upon moving here, she worked as a house sitter. She enjoyed cooking, seeing her grandchildren and collecting any and everything. She was a member of Red Walnut Church of Christ.
Survivors include a son, Mike Austin of Bolivar; six sisters, Barnie Lambert, Ollie Faye Evans, Kathleen McVey, Julie Carr and Betty Buczynski, all of Scotts Hill and Mary Alice Yarbro and her husband, J.L., of Brighton; two brothers and their spouses, Curtis and Betty Austin of Texas and Billy and Linda Austin of Scotts Hill; three grandchildren, Jonathan Austin and his wife, Jessica of Reagan, Sarah Williams and her husband, Colby of Lexington and Will Austin of Lexington; and three great granddaughters, Olivia Fisher, Michaelyn Williams and Jenna Austin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, MacArthur, Herbert and Landon Austin and two sisters, Colleen Wilbanks and LuDean Austin. The family requests memorial donations be made to the Red Walnut Church of Christ or St. Jude Children’s Research Hosptial.
