Irene Dupont Niemiec, age 92, of Linden, Tennessee and formerly of Massachusetts, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Perry Community Hospital in Linden, Tennessee.

Irene was born on July 18, 1924 in Taunton, Massachusetts to Joseph and Rose Faria Dupont. On May 28, 1949 she married the love of her life, Alphonse Niemiec and they spent twenty-eight years together, raising their five children together until his untimely passing on September 16, 1977. Irene was a nurturer and caregiver at heart and avidly mothered her children as well as played an active role in the lives of her grandchildren until her passing. In that vein, she also worked at the Perry County Senior Center until she was 88 years old, telling her children that she needed to “take care of the old people”. She was also an excellent cook and for many years, before relocating to Tennessee, she owned and operated a full-service restaurant in Massachusetts called The Belkit Room. The restaurant served lobster and other fresh seafood as well as succulent prime rib.

Irene is survived by her children: Peter, Paul and Alphonse Niemiec, Rose Fitzgerald and Karen Biela Jones; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and siblings: Joseph Dupont, George Dupont and Dorothy Hurley.

A memorial service to celebrate Mrs. Niemiec’s life will be held by the family at a later date.

Williams Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements and online condolences may be made to the family at www.williamsfh.com.
