Ms. Inyang Idio Oyekanmi Lamentations 3:32

Though he brings grief, he will show compassion,

so great is his unfailing love.

Mrs. Inyang “Ekaete” Idio Oyekanmi was born January 7, 1954 in Ikot Mbon Ikono, Akwa ibom state, Nigeria West Africa To the late Margaret and Idio Obot. She was married to the late Mr. Ademola Oyekanmi for 44 years. She graduated from Adiahabong Girl’s secondary school in Akwa Ibom state. She processed to work at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Lagos, Nigeria where she met her late husband. She went to secretarial school in London, England and was proficient in typewriting as well as shorthand.

She worked as a Customs and Border officer for the Nigerian government. She spoke several languages including English, Igbo, Hasa, and her native dialect Ibibio (Nigerian Languages). She travelled to different countries as a wife of a diplomat. She traveled and lived in other countries such as the Philippines, Kong Uganda, Botswana, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, South Africa, England, and the United States of America. She was an active member of the Rocky Family worship center in Huntsville, Alabama and she would attend Redeem Christian Church of God. She enjoyed praise and worship service and she took on the roles as a health care worker in Group homes and nursing homes in the USA. She loved attending Nigerian community events and socializing with her friends and family.

She is survived by her three daughters, Idara Oluwaseun Oyekanmi, Abiola Edidiyong Oyekanmi, and Tokunbo Imeh Oyeyemi Oyekanmi; an only son, Oyesina Ubong Oyekanmi; a younger sister, Grace Idio Okon; and nephers, nieces, cousins, and other relatives.

She cherished and loved God, family, loved to laugh, and cook her favor dish, which was “Afang”. She was light hearted, always sharing, caring, kind, bursting with love to give, funny, and deeply loved by her family, her friends, & her Nigerian and African communities. Her absence from heart will be missed forever in our hearts. Make her soul rest in peace.

Funeral service will be 12:30 p.m., Saturday, June 10, 2023, Royal Chapel of Memories (4315 Oakwood Avenue, NW Huntsville, AL 35810).

The Oyekanmi family will receive guest from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday, June 9, 2023, at the Royal Chapel of Memories.

Public viewing will be held from 11:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Friday, June 9, 2023, and 8:30 until 11:30 a.m., Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the Royal Funeral Home.
