InTech Announces $23.5 million expansion; 30 to 50 new jobs in Athens

InTech celebrated on June 10, 2022, a $23.5 million investment that will bring 30 to 50 jobs to Athens. According to Limestone County Economic Development Association President & CEO Bethany Shockney, the facility will be approximately 100,000 square feet once the expansion is complete.

The company began in 1985 in Athens as Turner Medical and later developed into specialty precision machining medicinal devices. In the mid-2000s they were purchased by a French company InTech which has taken it to an international level with 500 employees worldwide.

“We are so honored and pleased that InTech has chosen to continue to invest in our community and with this significant expansion, we will continue to support our diversified industrial base to include the medical devices industry,” Shockney said.

David Brackeen, Vice President of Operations for InTech, said this expansion will meet the global growth needs of the Orthopedic market by producing more instruments, implants, and robots used all over the world.

Brackeen said Limestone County produces some of the best workforce to help InTech thrive.

“Over the last several years, Athens and Limestone County has done a great job of keeping our workforce growing by investing in our children by promoting and improving the local technical programs to better develop our people to be ready to enter the workforce with the skills needed,” Brackeen said.

Limestone County Commission Chairman Collin Daly and Athens Mayor Ronnie Marks both congratulate InTech on this expansion.
