DECATUR-The first-ever Celebrating Women of Character event will take place on International Women’s Day, March 8, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Ingalls Pavilion in Decatur, AL. This free, community-wide event will honor and empower women of all backgrounds through workshops, informative sessions, and keynote presentations.
Highlights of the Daytime Event
The event will feature a variety of free engaging workshops led by local experts and professionals, including:
- Decatur Fire Department: CPR & Safety Workshop
- Decatur Police Department: Women’s Safety Seminar
- Peggy Towns: Local Women’s History Presentation
- Lynsey Staggs: Yoga & Wellness Session
- Christy Richardson: Estate Planning Essentials
- Monica Bates (CHARSO Organization): Rising Above Adversity
Attendees will also hear from Ashley Jones, Alabama’s Poet Laureate, who will deliver an inspiring keynote address celebrating the resilience and creativity of women.
Food trucks and non-profit vendors will be on-site, offering attendees a chance to explore resources and services available to women in Decatur and Morgan County.
Celebrating Women of Character: After Party
Following the daytime event, The After Party, themed with elegant all-white attire, will be a dazzling celebration of women at Turner Surles Community Center from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tickets for this exciting evening celebration are $20, with proceeds benefiting SEVEDA, a local non-profit dedicated to supporting women and others affected by domestic violence.
The After Party will feature the Distinguished Women of Morgan County Awards, honoring three outstanding women for their endurance, creativity, and trailblazing spirit.
