A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, May 21, 2002 at Glencoe Cumberland Presbyterian Church for Mrs. Ilene Pearman Pentecost, age 91, departed this life on May 18, 2022. Rev. Sam Hayes will officiate. Burial will follow at Hebron Cemetery in Ohatchee, AL. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
She was a graduate of Etowah High School, where she was homecoming queen. She was a graduate of Jacksonville State University, and University of Alabama Birmingham, where she earned a master’s degree in Elementary Education. She was a well-loved teacher at Glencoe Elementary for her entire career, and was known for her ability to teach children how to read.
She was also a very dedicated and faithful member of Glencoe Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school.
She left a legacy of genuine, unselfish love for her family and community. As a Godly woman, it was important to her to know that her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren have a strong Christian faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, A.M. and Arrie Pearman; her husband, Huey Pentecost; and grandson, William Downs.
She is survived by her son, Mark Pentecost (Jennifer); her daughters, Lori Chandler (Greg), Jana Downs (Mac); and daughter-in-law, Jane Pentecost. Grandchildren, Lee Pentecost (Katie), Erin Steed (Dustin), Kendall Bunton (Sloan), Clay Chandler (Jennifer), Jordan Chandler; and eight great-grandchildren.
Our thanks to our sitters, Georgia, Miranda, Sherry, Brandi, and Jackie; Alaco Pharmacy, Amanda Devine and staff, and Hope Hospice and Ashley, Sharon, Bridgett, Jay and Mandy for excellent care.
Pallbearers will be Mark Pentecost, Lee Pentecost, Dustin Steed, Greg Chandler, Clay Chandler, and Jordan Chandler.
The family will receive friends from 1:00PM until the hour of the service.
