Ila Sanders Goodman – Obituary

Ila-Goodman-1447684651Ila Sanders Goodman, age 93, passed away Monday, November 16, 2015 at NHC in Columbia, Tennessee.

Ila was born in Marion County, Tennessee on October 12, 1922 to the late Clarence W. Sanders and the late Annie Pearl Pursely. Ila worked for Farm Bureau for thirty-five years before retiring. She truly cherished her time working there. After she retired, Ila volunteered at Maury Regional Medical Center. Ila enjoyed making music. She was an extremely talented pianist. She especially loved to play the piano and perform with her granddaughter Kristy at her recitals. She was an extraordinarily loving woman. She cared deeply for her family and animals. She especially loved her cats. Her son said that Ila had to be the “Sweetest person in the world.” She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

Ila is survived by her son Neil (Paula) Goodman of Columbia, Tennessee; granddaughters Susan Goodman of Pennsylvania and Kristy (Garnett) Nealy of Hampshire, Tennessee; great-granddaughter Nicole Davis of Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee; and nephews Mike (Paula) Sanders and Joe Goodman.

Ila was preceded in death by her parents, husband Claude O. Goodman, and brother William Stanley Sanders.

The family will visit with friends on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Services will be held on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be John Chadwell, Wayne Goins, Charlie Morton, Jim Ludin, Ray Gibson, and Mike Sanders.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Past/Present employees of the Farm Bureau and Staff of NHC Columbia.

In lieu of flowers please donate to the Alzheimer’s Society.
