Funeral services for Ila Katherine “Meme” Knight, age 96 of Lineville, will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Rev. Jeff Byars officiating. Burial will follow at the Ashland City Cemetery.
Ms. Knight passed away on December 28, 2022 at her residence. She was born in Georgia, and lived in the Stone Mountain and Lake Oconee areas until she moved to Clay County in 1995. Before her retirement she had worked for several years as a grocery store manager and also managed Sugar Creek Marina. MeMe as she was known, loved to help raise her grand-children, great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren, sitting on the porch with them watching the birds, fishing, and just riding around. She was a hardworking woman and really enjoyed getting on her riding lawn mower cutting her grass as well New Harmony’s any time she could.
She is survived by one daughter, Shirley Dunn of Ashland; two sisters, Joyce Lynch of Cragford and Marjorie Reynolds of Birmingham; 2 grandchildren, Tammy Brown Allen and Tom Dunn (Jackie); 8 great grandchildren, two that she raised; T.C. Brown (Kayla), Kyle Brown (Brook) and also Kayla Myers, Chace Yearick, Jadde Yearick, Brady Allen, Caleb Brown, and Jerra Allen; plus 12 Great-Great Grandchildren, and a daughter-in-law, Imogene Boulware of Georgia and her son, Chris Davis.
Ms. Knight is preceded in death by her parents, Jinx Lee Barden and Ila Beulah Chapman Barden; one son, Curtis Boulware; one sister, Fannie Sarratt; and six brothers, Wade, Elmo, Herbert, Ralph, Herschell, and Eric Barden; two grandchildren, Timothy Brown and Tommy Brown, and one great grandchild, Michael Brown.
Active Pallbearers will be T. C. Brown, Kyle Brown, Brady Allen, Larry Robertson, Joey Crawford, Tom Dunn, and Ben Lynch. Honorary Pallbearers will be Caleb Brown, Chace Yearick, Corley Brown, Colin Crawford, Phillip Stinson, Tony McCormick, Mark Hebert, Jarrod Camp, and Bubba Bowman.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 30, 2022 from 5:30 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland.
The family request No Flowers, However Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Clay County, UAB Cancer Center, or Russell Medical Center in Alexander City.
