Ichiban: A Restaurant Review

I met Ichiban’s owner Jacky Cai shortly after he opened the restaurant in Sheffield, Alabama.  Jacky is a people person and enjoys interacting with his customers.  First off, I like some oriental food but not a lot.  I am actually allergic to seafood so I have to be careful what I eat.  So, here is a layman’s restaurant review of Ichiban Restaurant.

When Icihban first opened I went in.  Jacky had several tables set up. The place was small but comfortable as far as the seating arrangements.  I learned that people come near and far for the sushi.  There is a full sushi bar at Ichibans.  Looking over the menu, there is a lot of different kinds of sushi that you can order.  I have seen people rave about the different types of the sushi while I was there.

There is a complete menu with steaks, chicken, seafood and many combinations of items.  There is pretty much something for everyone.  There are also appetizers on the menu for those who might not like sushi.

Jacky has recently renovated the restaurant.  He has added a full Hibachi Grill.  I did attend one of the Hibachi preparation shows one time.  I have to say, if you have never been to one, you need to go.  The cook dazzles the crowd with spinning and flipping utensils.  It was amazing to watch.  They incorporate the diners during the performance.  At one time, the cook rolled an egg across the grill.  He asked if we knew what that was?  None of us had a clue.  He said “egg roll.”  Ok, got me on that one.

I have had the Sesame Chicken, Honey Chicken, and Hibachi Steak.  I have to say that the Hibachi Steak is my favorite.  I always get it with Noodles and White Rice.  I had to convince Jacky that I wanted it well done.    It took a while but I finally got him into the groove of cooking it like that.

Let’s talk about desert.  They serve Fried Cheesecake.  Ahhh.  It is so good.  It has a crispy, flaky crust and a soft, gooey center.  It melts in your mouth.  It is awesome.  It is just the right amount to finish off your meal.

I have come to know Jacky, his lovely wife and have been there for the birth of his children.  He strives to serve the best meals and provide entertainment for his customers.  You never know what to expect with him.  One time I went to the restaurant and had my cowboy hat on.  Jacky got it and began telling everyone he was the Ichiban Kid.

Go by and see Jacky and have some of his famous Sushi or other dinner.  He has recently opened an Ichiban’s in Florence, Alabama.  Be sure to check out the Ichiban’s Facebook page for coupons and specials.
