Hurshel HillHurshel G. Hill of Russellville passed away Sunday, February 16th 2025, at his daughter’s home in Lexington, AL. He was born in Flat Rock, Alabama on November 1st, 1940 as the youngest of 8 children to Webb and Essie Hill. Hurshel spent 20+ years working for the Grand Trunk Western Railroad before purchasing Centerhill Market and Hardware in Killen, Alabama in 1981. As owner/operator of the store, Hurshel was a cornerstone of the community until he retired in 2006. His post-retirement life included long drives across the US and endless hours at antique stores and flea markets. He always had an old joke or story to tell and will be missed by his family. Hurshel was preceded in death by his son David Scott Hill and is survived by his five children (Curt, Lori, Jeff, Jennifer, Tommy), eight grandchildren (Heather, Jason, Carissa, Amanda, Steven, Danielle, Niki, Ruth Ann), and five great-grandchildren (Ryan, Kaiden, Dylan, Monroe, Miles). Visitation will be held at Greenhill Funeral Home on Thursday, February 20th, 2025 from 5 to 7 pm. The Funeral Service will be held there as well on Friday morning, February 21st, 2025 starting at 11am, followed by burial at Dobbins Cemetery in Appleton, Tennessee.
