HUNTSVILLE-On Friday, December 6 a Huntsville police officer was killed in the line of duty as he responded to a tip regarding a drug deal.
The officer was a member of the STAC team and had been a member of the department for 20 years. Police Chief Mark McMurray with the Huntsville Police Department has not released the identity of the fallen officer at this time.
The officer was shot around 6:30 PM on Levert Street in Huntsville as a drug-related investigation was being conducted by STAC agents.
Police say officers captured the suspect.

“Tonight, we mourn the loss of yet another brother, an officer with the Huntsville Police Department. This has been a deadly year for Alabama’s law enforcement community. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones, as well as his Huntsville PD family.”
U.S. Attorney Jay Town:
“All of Alabama is heartbroken again as another Alabama peace officer is gunned down in the line of duty. The Huntsville Police Department investigator, whose name will be released tomorrow, will always be remembered as a good man and a fine officer. Those of us who knew him admired his dedication and professionalism. We must now direct our prayers to his grieving family and pull together in full support of the Huntsville Police Department and law enforcement everywhere who lost another brother of the badge tonight. I am beyond grief.”
Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle:

We owe a continual and deep debt of gratitude to the men and women in law enforcement who protect our community every day. We stand side by side with our police department and in the days, weeks and months ahead – have no doubt – we will use the full extent of the law to bring the perpetrator to justice.”
Attorney General Steve Marshall:
