HUNTSVILLE-On Friday, December 6 a Huntsville police officer was killed in the line of duty as he responded to a tip regarding a drug deal.
The officer was a member of the STAC team and had been a member of the department for 20 years. Police Chief Mark McMurray with the Huntsville Police Department has not released the identity of the fallen officer at this time.

The officer was shot around 6:30 PM on Levert Street in Huntsville as a drug-related investigation was being conducted by STAC agents.
Police say officers captured the suspect.

“All of Alabama is heartbroken again as another Alabama peace officer is gunned down in the line of duty. The Huntsville Police Department investigator, whose name will be released tomorrow, will always be remembered as a good man and a fine officer. We must now direct our prayers to his grieving family and pull together in full support of the Huntsville Police Department and law enforcement everywhere who lost another brother of the badge tonight. I am beyond grief.”
