A memorial service will be held at a later date for Hugh Lamar “Bunk” Young, age 91 of Cragford.
Mr. Young passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at his residence in Cragford. He was a native of Mellow Valley and a lifelong resident in Clay County. He graduated from Mellow Valley High School, served as a medic in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and retired from Russell Mills as a sewing machine mechanic. He was a member of County Line Baptist Church and also cut grass at the adjoining cemetery for over 23 years. He was also a Board of Education Representative for several years. Anytime you saw “Bunk”, his loving companion “Kenza” was not far from him. If something was broken, “Bunk” could fix it because he could fix anything.
He is survived by his wife, Pam Carroll Young of Cragford and her family; two cousins: Paul Thompson (Peggy) and Peggy Thompson of LaFayette; Special friend, Jackie Heath of Cragford; his loving companion “Kenza”; and an extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas and Lessie Dawkins Young; his wife, Gail Young; one son, Hugh Owen Young; one daughter, Sherri Young Jordan; and one grandson, Dustin Jordan.
Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville will be in charge of arrangements.
