Mr. Hugh Franklin Childress, 82, of Scottsboro, AL died unexpectedly on January 3, 2020. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Childress was born on November 28, 1937 in Scottsboro, AL. He served his country in the US Army. He went on to work as a lead machinist at United Technologies, contributing to the space program. After his retirement, he worked as a security guard at Goosepond Colony.
Childress married Laura Jean Hall of Skyline, AL, his loving wife of sixty years. They had three daughters. Childress was preceded in death by his parents, Garth and Nettie Childress, his siblings, Aubrey Childress, Ora Hess, Bill Davis, and John Childress.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Laura; siblings Garth Childress, Jean Hall, and Sue Rice; daughters, Tammy (John) Warr, Kim (Peter) Hall, and Shannon (Richee) Rice ; grandchildren Lauren (Patrick) Stewart, Lindsey (Travis) Stevens, Jessica Reeves, Jade Rice, Lane (Don)Webb, Emily Reeves, Chandler Hall, Taylor Hall, and Baylee Rice; and great grandchildren Ava, Ethan, Chloe, Lenox, Mason, Olivia, Emma, Audrey Claire, and Hensley Ruth; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 5, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00pm at Scottsboro Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Monday, January 6, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Scottsboro Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pinehaven Memorial Gardens.
