Hoyt Ray McBrayer, 75 of Fort Payne, passed away Friday, March 8, 2024, at his home in Hanceville, AL. He was born in Fort Payne, Alabama on July 21, 1948 to the late Thomas Leroy McBrayer and Cora Emma Burnett. After receiving his Masters Degree from Auburn University, he retired from teaching in the Jackson County School System. He was a member of the Lions Club and Jackson County Sheriff Posse, as well as the Bainbridge Trail Blazers. He was a member and Deacon for many years at Circle Hill Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 12th at Union Hill Baptist Church with burial following in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the 3 p.m. hour of service at the church.
He is survived by his wife Berta McBrayer; children Lory Barwick (Ralph), Jennifer McBrayer, and Paula Spitzer (John II); daughter-in-law April McBrayer; sister Freda Lucy (Don); grandchildren Mary Barwick Campbell (Alec), Cody Barfield (Myah), Emma Ray Spitzer, Isabella Barwick, Victoria Barfield, Amelia Spitzer, Heath McBrayer, Lemuel Barwick, Clara Spitzer, Chloe Barfield, John Spitzer III, and Cole McBrayer.
He was preceded in death by his son David McBrayer, sisters Jimmie Rose Cassat and Linda Tettleton; and brother Joseph Edward McBrayer.
