Graveside services for Mr. Howard L. White, Jr., age 92 of Gulf Shores, were held on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at Ashland City Cemetery.
Mr. White passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Englewood Health Care Center in Monroeville. Born in Ashland, he graduated from Clay County High School in 1946 and attended Auburn University in 1949 where he received a Bachelor’s in Business Administration. Mr. White joined the United States Army reserves in 1952 and was honorably discharged as a Captain in 1964. He started working for the State of Alabama in 1957 under Gov. Jim Folsom as a State Purchasing Agent, and later he served under Gov. John Patterson, Gov. George Wallace, Gov. Lurleen Wallace, Gov. Albert Brewer, Gov. Fob James and retired under Gov. Guy Hunt in 1989 as Purchasing Director. He was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and an active member of the American Legion Post 99 in Foley.
He is survived by his daughter, Margaret Ann White Raines (Charles) of Beatrice, his son, Howard Riley White of Gulf Shores, three grandchildren: Saralyn Raines Davis (Jason), Charles Aaron Raines (Savanna) and Oren Ethan White (Jasmine), four great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Sr. and Peggy White, his brother, Terry A. White, his sister, Helen Johnson and the mother of his children, Ella Mae Ingram.
Mr. White’s family and friends served as pallbearers.
