Howard Burks – Obituary

Funeral service for Mr. Howard Burks age 89 of Cotaco will be Friday, February 14, 2014 at 11:00am at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Charles Owens officiating with burial in the Shiloh Cemetery with Military Honors and Masonic Honors and Peck Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 9:00am until service time on Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Burks, who died on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at his home in Cotaco, was born February 28, 1924 in Tarrant City, Alabama to Edward Roland Burks and Vina Idora Green Burks. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and was the recipient of multiple honors including 2 Purple Hearts while serving in the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and the Arrites Oden Masonic Lodge # 396 in Falkville and was an avid fisherman. He was preceded in death by a daughter; Linda Burks, a son; Mike Burks and a Grandson; Chris Parker.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years; Algie Jones Burks, 2 Sons; Jimmy Burks (Julie) of Guntersville and Steve Burks of Cotaco, 3 Daughters; Sandra Cross (Keith) of Decatur, Debbie McLemore (Ron) of Hartselle and Barbara Jones (J.P.) of Union Hill, 1 Brother; Gene Burks of Florida, 11 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren.

Jimmy Burks, Steve Burks, J.P. Jones, Keith Cross, Jeffrey Parker and Jason Wilbanks will serve as pallbearers.
