Hosea Freeman Chaney, 86, of Huntsville, entered his rest at 9:21 a.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2024, after a lengthy battle with ESRD. He was the youngest of eight children, born on what later became part of Redstone Arsenal, to his parents, Walter Freeman and Nora Baker Chaney. His seven siblings include Frank Baker Chaney, Walter McKinley Chaney, Maborn Chaney, Merrill Chaney, Pearl Roberdia Chaney Griffin, and Lawrence E. Chaney.

Survivors include his wife of almost 63 years, Gay Chaney; a host of loving nieces and nephews, and their collie, Wally, who accompanied him everywhere.

Hosea was known for his ability to converse with people, rarely meeting a stranger, and for his generosity towards others. He was a member of the Living Church of God, where he served as a deacon for many years, and considered the congregation to be part of his loving family as well.

We would like to thank the brethren for their continued love and support. His wife would also like to thank all of their neighborhood friends for their overwhelming support, generosity, and loving kindness. We also express our deep appreciation to Shelia of the Home Instead organization for her exceptional kindness and support, far exceeding what was required of her.

A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oleander Methodist Church Cemetery in Morgan City.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity or organization.
