Thomason, Horace obitHorace D. Thomason, 94, of Birmingham passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at the Col. Robert L. Howard State Veterans Home. The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 21 at Elkins Funeral Home. The graveside service with military honors will follow at 2 p.m. at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens with Bro. Ellis Coats officiating.

Mr. Thomason spent most of his life in Florence where he worked for over 40 years for the U.S. Postal Service until he retired in 1987. During that time he was an elder for Woodlawn Church of Christ until he and his late wife, Sara C. Thomason moved to Birmingham to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his service with the US Army during World War II.

Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Ridolphi (Earl) of Alabaster; two grandsons, Charlie Ritch (Alison) and Chris Kontos; five great grandchildren, Sarah Margaret Ritch, Carden Elizabeth Ritch, Mary Rose Ritch, Charles Ray Ritch, III, and Alex Maxwell Kontos all of Birmingham; and many nieces and nephews.

In memory of Horace, memorials may be made to the Homewood Church of Christ in Birmingham.
