Hope Elizabeth Doll – Obituary

DollMrs. Hope Elizabeth Doll passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2013 in Lexington. Hope Elizabeth Bauer was born July 11, 1918, a daughter of Ralph and May Veech Bauer. She attended Gaskill Methodist Church early in life and through the eighth grade at nearby Water Oak School. She graduated from Neoga (Illinois) High School in 1937. She married Vernon Doll December 18, 1943 in Princeton, IL.
Her working career began at the garment factory in Neoga, IL and she spent the early war years working a Kuehne Manufacturing Co. in Mattoon, IL. After her marriage to Vernon they lived in Tampa, FL when he was stationed at Drew Field. They later went to Alexander, LA Air Force Base until he received his discharge from the service October 29, 1945. While Vernon served in the Army, Hope was employed by the Polk Cannery in Tampa, FL and by the Quartermaster in Alexandria, LA. In the spring of 1946 they began making their home in Mattoon, IL. They were blessed with a son, Keith in 1952.
Mrs. Doll loved her flowers, gardening and her church, First United Methodist Church in Mattoon. Her list of travels include Old Mexico, Alaska (twice), Hawaii, England, Scotland, Wales, Holy Land, Egypt and many others.
Survivors include her husband, son Keith and wife Kathy, grandson Bill and wife Jackie all of Lexington, granddaughter Tisha of Chattanooga and great-grandson Luke of Lexington. She was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother Grayce Bauer, and her brother Burl.
She and her husband Vernon moved to Lexington, TN October 12, 2008 to be near their son Keith and family. She was a member of Lexington Christian Church.
She faced declining health and ability with courage. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. The family has chosen cremation. Pafford Funeral Home of Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
