Homer William “Bill” Copeland, age 72, passed away on September 8, 2023 at St. Joseph Hospital in Savannah, Georgia after a brief illness.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at 1:00pm at Arlington Cemetery. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Billy was born October 6, 1950, to Homer and Katherine Mosley Copeland in Columbia, Tennessee. He lived and attended schools in Mt. Pleasant. Growing up he played baseball and at Haylong High School he played on the basketball team. After high school graduation he attended and graduated from DeVry University in Atlanta, Georgia. He worked for Sears all his adult life until retirement. After his retirement he and his wife moved to Pooler, Georgia where they lived.
In Atlanta he met and married his wife, Martha Copeland. They have a son, Trace Copeland and a grandson, Lewis. Homer was very active in Trace’s life including coaching his baseball, basketball, and football teams for eight years. In his free time, he enjoyed working on cars, dirt bikes, and go-karts. He remained active in sports by umpiring little league games at the Lions Club Park for an additional 8 years. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Copeland; son, Trace Copeland; and grandson, Lewis.
