TUSCUMBIA – Colbert County Tourism and Convention Bureau is brewing up a mixture of Muscle Shoals music and legends of ghosts that live in the area to create a delightfully haunting trolley tour that is sure to be a hit.
The Hits and Haunts Trolley Tour will depart ColdWater Books, at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26 and Tuesday, Oct. 27 for a ghost tour of the area that includes stops at the original Muscle Shoals Sound Studio at 3614 Jackson Highway in Sheffield and Cypress Moon Studios, also in Sheffield. Along the way, award-winning journalist and author, Bernie Delinski, will tell stories about Shoals ghosts.
There will be a haunting photo op of the exterior of the 3614 Jackson Highway studio, which was once a casket warehouse. At Cypress Moon Studios, owner Tonya Holley will share stories about Muscle Shoals music and ghostly encounters she has experienced in the historic building that has been used as a power plant, U.S. Naval Reserve station and a recording and movie production studio.
Susann Hamlin, president and CEO of Colbert Tourism, said the tour is for music fans and Halloween enthusiasts of all ages.
“Bernie and Tonya are excellent story tellers. Both have some great ghost stories they will be telling and Tonya will be sharing some great tidbits about the history of Muscle Shoals music,” Hamlin said. “The tour is a great way to learn about our musical heritage and to get an early start on Halloween. Many of the spirits of the city’s past inhabitants are just dying to be discovered during the tour.”
Delinski will have copies of his book “The Omega Ghost” available for purchase at the end of the tour.
Tickets for the tours are $15 and are available at the Colbert Tourism Office, 719 U.S. Hwy. 72, Tuscumbia, next door to the Alabama Music Hall of Fame. For more details call 256-383-0783 or email colberttourism@comcast.net.
