TUSCUMBIA-This week’s Historic Tuscumbia Walking Tour on Saturday, April 21 will visit two of the oldest churches in the city.

Local historian Ron Hudson will lead the tour that will focus on the founders and early members of First Presbyterian Church and St. John’s Episcopal Church.  First Presbyterian Church, built in 1827 to serve a congregation established in 1824, is considered Alabama’s oldest house of worship in continuous service. St. John’s Episcopal Church was built in 1852 to serve a congregation formed in 1839.

The free tour begins at 10 a.m. outside ColdWater Books at the corner of Sixth Street and Main Street in Tuscumbia. The Tuscumbia tours are part of series of walking tours being held throughout the state on Saturdays in April to explore local history and celebrate the Alabama Bicentennial.
