Hiram Lewis (better known as H.L.) King, 83, of Athens, passed away on Friday, October 3, 2014, at home. Mr. King was born May 22, 1931, in Limestone County to Charles Franklin King, Sr. and Mattie Paul Johnson King. Mr. King was a life-long resident and third-generation farmer in Limestone County. He served on the Board of Directors for both Limestone Farmers Co-op and Alabama Farmers Co-op for over 50 years. He never met a stranger and was willing to help and mentor whoever he could in the Alabama farming community. But more importantly, he was a Christian and attended the congregations of Tanner, Market Street and Westview churches of Christ during his lifetime with many beloved brothers and sisters.
Visitation for Mr. King will be Sunday, October 5, from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. The funeral will follow in the chapel immediately after visitation at 2 p.m. Burial in Limestone Memorial Gardens.
Mr. King was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Franklin King, Sr. and Mattie Paul Johnson King and his brother, Charles Franklin King, Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Betty King; one daughter, Eva Robison and husband Frank; one son, Sam King and wife Nancy; four grandchildren, Adam Robison (girlfriend, Jennifer Townsend), Seth King (wife, Heidi), Lindsay King and Will King; one great-grandchild, Gibson King; two sisters, Elizabeth Cooperrider and Dorothy Hossman; numerous nephews and nieces; and best friend, Dallas.
Pallbearers will be Adam Robison, Seth King, Will King, Matt Haney, Buzzy Smith and John Curtis. Honorary Pallbearers will be George Redus and Mark Houston.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice Care of Alabama, St. Jude’s Hospital or to some other organization that is assisting those who are still living but suffering, both people and animals.
