Herschel Brintz Wells – Obituary

hershelHerschel Brintz Wells, age 89, of Decatur, left this life to meet his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 19, 2016. His funeral service will be Sunday, October 23, 2016, 3:00 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church with Rev. Brian McLaughlin and Dr. Walter Schmidt officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to service. Interment will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Wells, was born August 29, 1927, in Morgan County, to Robert Leslie Wells and Mary Agnes McRee Wells. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Gwendolyn White and Cindy South; one granddaughter, Charissa Marie Wells; his parents; five brothers, Robert, Elmer, Melvin, Everett, and Kenneth; and three sisters, Etoile, Nell, and Eva.

At the age of 18, he joined the Navy and served almost three years. As a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Decatur, he served as Music Director for 25 years. He was also a deacon for many years, taught Sunday school, served as Mission Chairman, and willingly worked in any position that he could serve his Lord.

He worked as Senior Buyer for 3M Corporation for many years until his retirement. He was an active member of Gideons International. Mr. Wells enjoyed many aspects of life, and loved gardening, golf, fishing, and his family. He was a loyal Auburn Tiger fan. He had many friends and loved his family, before whom he set a good example.

Mr. Wells is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Connie Wells; two sons, DeWayne Wells (Janis) of Decatur, and Douglas Wells (Vicki) of Simpsonville, SC; one sister, Nita Terry of Decatur; seven grandchildren, Kyle Wells, Kallie Main, Heather Reardon, Lea South, Grace Wells, Douglas Wells, II, and Christina Wells; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces who will share his memory.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Wells, Douglas Wells, II, Michael Reardon, Andrew Main, Lynn Patterson, Mark Speegle, Ray Patterson, and Rufus Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be former and active deacons of Fairview Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to Gideons International or the Fairview Baptist Church Missions Fund.
