Herman Lee Green, age 91 of Sewanee, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. A native of Franklin County, he was born in Sewanee on December 31, 1929 to the late Columbus E. and Sallie Elizabeth (Jacobs) Green. Before his retirement, Herman had been employed by the University of the South as a stone mason for many years. He enjoyed being home, working in his garden, and whittling, as well as coon hunting and horseback riding. Herman never met a stranger and enjoyed visiting with others during his breakfasts at Hardeeās. A hardworking man, he was a wonderful provider for his family and a wonderful father. Herman was a member of Midway Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Phenie Green; son, Ray Green; grandson, Philip Green; twin sisters, Martha Gilliam and Sarah McGregor; and brother, James Green. Herman is survived by his loving children, Teresa Johnson of Sewanee, Ransom (Margie) Green of Cowan,Ricky Green of Sewanee, and Randall (Kathy) Green of Monteagle; grandchildren, Josh (Crystal) Johnson, Eric Johnson, Ashley (Rusty) Sells, Kelley (Scott) Guess, Cody Green, Brandi (Brandon) Matthews, Cynthia (Derrick) Green, Melissa Green, Travis Green, Karen Green, Jason Green, Kaylia Green, and Jessie Green; twenty-six great-grandchildren;brothers, Junior (Bonnie) Green and Joe (Donna) Green of Sewanee; sisters, Susie (Sam) Kilgore of Monteagle, Barbara Byers of Pelham, Mary Green of Sewanee, and Kathy Owensby of Sewanee; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 21, 2021 in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with Evangelist Keith Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow at Harrison Cemetery in Midway.
