A visitation for Herbert will be held Wednesday, November 20, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Collier-Butler Funeral & Cremation Services, 824 Rainbow Drive, Gadsden, Alabama 35901, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Rev. L. Dale Butler will officiate.
He will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Attalla.
Herbert graduated from Etowah High School. He enlisted in the Navy in October 1952, at the end of the Korean War. After he was discharged he went to work for Merita Bakery for 38 years. Upon retirement he drove the trolley for the City of Gadsden for 10 years.
Preceding him in death was his parents, Eugene and Bertie Patterson; brothers, Gene, James and Denny Floyd; sisters, Christine Gray, Helen Murphy, Barbara Talton and Ann Nichols.
Survivors include his son, Herbert (Mary Alice) Patterson, Jr.; daughter, Carol (Mac) McDonough; grandsons, Patrick and Stefan Patterson; granddaughter, Jaime Patterson; great grandson, Jerry Patterson; great great grandchildren, Rylie Grace and Bryson Lee and special pet, Fluffy.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Mr. Patterson’s memory to St. Judes or the Humane Society.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Donna, Nya, Tina and Mary who cared for him with kindness and compassion. A very special thanks to his son-in-law, Mac, who stayed by him during the bad times.
