Herbert Galen Lewellen age 92, resident of Ethridge, Tennessee since 2000 passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at NHC Healthcare of Columbia in Columbia, Tennessee.
He was born April 26, 1922 in Waynetown, Indiana in Montgomery County to the late Herbert Gordon Lewellen and Opal Elizabeth (Cruea) Lewellen. Mr. Lewellen was a graduate of Waynetown High School. He was inducted into the United States Marine Corp on Sept. 16, 1942 and served in the Pacific Theater as an aircraft mechanic during World War II. Upon leaving the Marines after the war, he continued his career with RR Donnelley & Sons Co. He first worked with Donnelley’s in Crawfordsville, Indiana then in 1958 he moved his family to Willard, Ohio where he completed a 49 year career with RR Donnelley. Later in life, he and his wife Hazel were active leaders in the Lay Witness Program with the United Methodist Church. He was also actively involved with the Gideons and Masons.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Hazel M (Hamilton) Lewellen; a son, Harold M. (Mike) Lewellen (Cynthia) of Bowling Green, Kentucky, a daughter, Cynthia J. Branham (Dennis) of Summertown, Tennessee; nine grandchildren, Jessica (Steve) Calvert, Chris Lewellen, Jeremy (Kari) Branham, Jeffrey Branham, Emily L (Michael) Treadwell, Jennifer Branham, Michael (Ashley) Lewellen, Elisabeth ( David) Downey, John (Trish ) Lewellen; and twenty one great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Margaret J and brother-in-law Philip Biddle; by his son Herbert Gregory Lewellen, by his grandson Cory Michael Lewellen, and a great-grandson Francis Harrison Treadwell.
Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. A memorial service will be conducted at Ethridge United Methodist Church at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 15, 2015, with Phillip Jaco officiating. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made to your local Alzheimer’s Association or Ethridge United Methodist Church
