Herbert Eldridge Gooch, 81, of Athens, AL, passed away on Thursday, January 18th, 2024. He was born on October 18th, 1942, in Limestone County, Alabama, to Spencer and Clara (Skeets) Gooch.

He is survived by his daughter Kristi Harmon and her spouse Todd; sister Vicki Craig and her spouse Bobby; brother Michael Gooch and his spouse Pasty; granddaughters ClaraBeth Harmon and Lillian Harmon; and nephews Brian Craig, Bradley Craig, and Zachary Gooch.

Mr. Gooch is preceded in death by his wife Cecilia Ann Moore Gooch; and parents Spencer and Clara Gooch.

Funeral service will be Friday, January 26th, 2024, at 4:00 p.m., at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday, January 26th, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Gooch was a Vietnam Veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He retired after twenty-six years at Steelcase Inc. as a tooling engineer. He was also employed by Cutler-Hammer/Eaton Corp. Mr. Gooch enjoyed building and dabbling with tools. He liked target shooting, was an avid reader, and enjoyed westerns. He was devoted to his late wife and dearly loved his granddaughters, attending as many of their events as possible.
