Mr. Herb Helton, age 90, a resident of Lynnville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 25, 2021, at his residence surrounded by family and friends.

 

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Herb’s grandchildren, Bro. Dwight Boswell, and Bro. Brandon Cochran officiating. Burial will follow in Lynnwood Cemetery.  A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM and again on Wednesday from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

 

Born on September 20, 1930, in Giles County, Herb was the son of the late Clyde May Helton and the late Annie Mae Shelton Helton. On December 18, 1948, he married Joyce Owen Helton, who preceded him in death on January 10, 2018. Herb was a farmer for many years and was the founder and owner of Bestview Farms. For most of his adult life, he was in the soft drink business, including his own franchise for Sun Drop. He was Pastor of several Baptist churches in Maury and Giles counties. Most recently, he was Senior Pastor of Open Door Baptist Church in Columbia.

 

Herb is survived by his sons, Philip Helton of Culleoka, TN, Wayne Helton of Dayton, TN, and Micheal (Vicki L.) Helton of Lynnville, TN, daughter, Linda (Larry) Sanders of Lynnville, TN, brothers, C.E. (Darlene) Helton and Gene (Gloria) Helton, eleven grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters and daughter in law, Vicki R. Helton.

 

Grandsons and great grandsons will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will include the members of Open Door Baptist Church, the remaining Class of 1949 Campbellsville High School, and friends and family of Robertson Fork, Lynnville and Mooresville.

 

The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Avalon Hospice, especially Brooke, Kelley, and Pastor Steve, for their genuine and compassionate care. A very special thank you for the around the clock love and care given by Tommy and Amy Helton.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Open Door Baptist Church: 1100 South High Street, Columbia, TN 38401, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital: 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or a charity of your choice.
