helenHelen W. Branum, 98, of Huntsville, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday. Mrs. Branum lived her entire life in Huntsville. She was a dedicated wife for 61 years to her husband, John Earl Branum Sr., who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Branum instilled in her children the values of love, dedication, responsibility and caring. Most called her Helen, but after her grandchildren were born, she was known by all as “MawMaw”. Caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was one of her life’s greatest joys. Her life was one of service and love to her family, friends, and church, Epworth Methodist, where she was a member for over 70 years. She was also a member of the Homemakers Sunday school class.

She retired from the Madison County Board of Registrars, where she worked for 23 years. In later years, she made her home at Atria Assisted Living, where she was instrumental in having residents register and vote, until moving to Millenium Facility.

Survivors include children, John Earl Branum Jr. (Ann), Grace Ann Butler (John) and Mona Gay Keith (Fred), grandchildren, Scott Branum (Dana), John Branum, Mark Butler (Holly), Christa McNabb (James), Kelli Hughes, Lorri Thornton (Les); 15 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Sunday at Epworth Methodist Church. The funeral service will immediately follow at the church with Jim Stringfellow officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Epworth Methodist Church.
