Helen Smith Peck – Obituary

Mrs. Helen Smith Peck, 92, of the Antioch Community, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013.

The funeral service will be today at 2 p.m. at the Antioch Church of Christ with Larry Harper, grandson, Kerry Peck, and son-in-law, Eckard Walker, officiating. Burial will follow in the Antioch Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be at the church from noon until service time.

Mrs. Peck had worked at the Genesco Knitting Mill, the Mars Hill Bible School lunchroom and had retired from the Lauderdale County Board of Education. She had served as an RSVP volunteer and was a member of the Killen Senior Center. She was a member of the Antioch Church of Christ.

She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crochet, knitting, gardening, canning, freezing and cooking for her family.

Mrs. Peck is survived by her daughters, Karen Hornbuckle, of Huntsville, Ala., and Barbara Walker and husband, Eckard, of Tanner, Ala.; grandchildren, Kerry Peck and wife, Suzanne, Jonathan Hornbuckle and wife, Laura, Kris Walker and wife, Natasha, and Kam Walker and wife, Ashleigh; great-grandchildren, Kurt, Seth and Aaron Peck, Addison and Jackson Walker and Peyton and Parker Hornbuckle. She is also survived by an “adopted sister” Jenny Peck and husband, Gerald; a host of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Lucille Faust and Jerry Ford.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Peck, on Sept. 13, 1983, her parents Will and Ollie Holden Smith; and seven sisters and three brothers.

The family would like to thank Dr. Danny Martin, Dr. Patricia Auxier, and the entire loving and caring staff of El Reposo Nursing Facility.

Elkins East Chapel is assisting the family.
