Funeral service for Helen Marie Polen Ball, age 101, of Decatur, will be Saturday, March 9, 2013, 2:00 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Scotty Hogan officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Ball, who died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at NHC Healthcare of Moulton, was born February 8, 1912, in Oregon, to William Polen and Mary Williams Polen. She was a member of Westmeade Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Wesley Ball, and son-in-law, Eddie Stanton.
Mrs. Ball served as Justice of the Peace in Morgan County in 1959 and 1960. She was secretary for Sixteenth Avenue Baptist Church during the tenure of three pastors. In 1998, she was honored in Jefferson County as Senior Volunteer Person of the Year, and as Mrs. Mountain Brook Baptist Church. She also taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty Ball Stanton of Decatur, and Barbara Ball Terry (Danny) of Birmingham; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
