TUSCUMBIA-The Tuscumbia Civitan Club announces production of the 2018 Civitan Christmas Ornament featuring the Helen Keller Public Library.

The 23rd ornament in the on-going series that showcases historical sites and landmarks of the community, the Library was selected to represent the third in a 4-year series of ornaments which pay tribute to history as Alabama celebrates its bicentennial. “Alabama 200” follows the theme “Places, People and the Stories They Tell.”  Helen Keller Library is celebrating the 125th anniversary of its establishment as Alabama’s first chartered library, making it an appropriate choice for this year’s ornament release.  Alabama became a state in 1819 and the Bicentennial will climax in 2019.

Tuscumbia Civitan Club supports many worthwhile charitable endeavors in the community through sales of the Christmas ornaments.  Among the recipients of funds raised are Safeplace, CASA, Meals on Wheels, the Cerebral Palsy Center, Boy’s and Girls’ State and much more.

Civitans report that the ornaments have been distributed to Cold Water Books, Fiddledee D!, Basse Trading Co., The Palace and financial institutions in the town, where they will be for sale throughout the Christmas season.  The price is $15.  Inventory from previous years will also be offered as long as available.  Civitan members encourage collectors to shop early for ornaments for their collections or to give as gifts.  You may also purchase ornaments from Civitan Club members.
