TUSCUMBIA – Colbert County Tourism proudly announces the Helen Keller Festival, a captivating four-day event paying homage to Helen Keller, America’s “First Lady of Courage.” From June 22 to June 25, 2023, downtown Tuscumbia and Spring Park will come alive with a
vibrant array of activities and entertainment for all ages.
The Helen Keller Festival offers an unforgettable experience, featuring a delightful parade, a fine arts and crafts show, delectable food vendors, captivating art exhibits, the engaging Keller Kids program, stage musical entertainment, immersive history programs, fascinating tours, and two captivating performances of the renowned play, “The Miracle Worker.”

The festival’s highlight is the lively downtown parade, set to commence at 6:00 pm on Thursday. It will wind through the streets of Tuscumbia, creating an electric atmosphere and celebrating the indomitable spirit of Helen Keller.
Visitors can explore captivating exhibits throughout the festival, such as the Helen Keller Art
Show of Alabama at the Tennessee Valley Art Museum. This juried exhibition showcases artwork created by talented students from across Alabama who have visual impairments or blindness. Additionally, tours of Ivy Green, Helen Keller’s childhood home, and the cottage where her beloved teacher, Anne Sullivan, taught her to communicate, offer an intimate glimpse into her extraordinary journey.

The festival’s marketplace in Spring Park is a haven for art lovers, housing a wide variety of artists and vendors from the Southeast. Guests can peruse unique creations, shop for one-of-akind souvenirs, and enjoy live musical performances in the park.
Music enthusiasts will be treated to exceptional talent during the Music in the Park events held on Friday and Saturday evenings. These concerts feature renowned artists who will provide captivating performances, adding to the festival’s vibrant atmosphere.
To truly immerse themselves in Helen Keller’s story, attendees are invited to witness “The Miracle Worker” play at Ivy Green. Now in its 62nd year, this powerful production recounts Helen Keller’s early life and the transformative moment that occurred at the famous well pump. Each performance will be signed for the hearing impaired, ensuring inclusivity for all.
Most festival events are free, allowing visitors to fully enjoy the vibrant atmosphere. However, there will be a $5 admission fee for the evening concerts, ensuring unforgettable entertainment for all.
