ATHENS-On Wednesday, April 3 at the Athens Limestone Decatur Community Breakfastn held at Calhoun Community College, the Arrowhead District of the Boy Scouts recognized those who make a difference in their communities by awarding two Heart of an Eagle Awards.
The Athens/Limestone community recipient was Eli’s Block Party Childhood Cancer Foundation. The non-profit organization hosts car shows and awareness events to raise money for and awareness about childhood cancer. For example, the organization hosts an annual Superhero Day in Athens, held in September for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, to honor our youngest superheros who battle cancer. There are activities for all children throughout the day. The foundation is named in memory of Eli Williams who died from his battle with brain cancer.
The guest speaker for the breakfast was Russ Pulley, an SEC official, retired FBI investigator and current Nashville Metro Council member. Pulley spoke about the impact Scouting has in his life and the importance of seeking each day to do the right thing for the right reason.
