Hazel F. Sterling Hazel F. Sterling, 94, of Bolivar, departed this life Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at her daughter’s home.

The daughter of Willie Hugh Simer and Ethel Mae Harris Simer, she was born November 18, 1926 in Hardeman County and lived her life here. She was the widow of Luther “Bill” Sterling, who preceded her in death in 1988, and she worked as a nurse’s aid and private duty nurse, sitting with the elderly. She loved to visit other people, work on her farm in her younger years and work word puzzles. She especially enjoyed going on trips with her church, but mostly loved being around her family. Mrs. Sterling was a member of Maple Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Cross of Bolivar; two sons, Wayne Sterling of Bolivar and Donald Sterling of Jackson; a sister, Ethel Mae Simer of Bolivar; 8 grandchildren, David Sills, Tammy Pittman, Joe, Jeremy, Zachary, Sara, Anthony and Randy Sterling; and 11 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Ellis Sterling; and 10 siblings, Robert Simer, Marthenia Budds, Dorothy Anthony, Lavern Simer, S.D. “Hoover” Simer, Edgar Simer, Edward Simer, Alfred “Jim” Simer, Pinky Olean Simer and Bessie Yarbrough. Memorial contributions in her name may be sent to Maple Springs Baptist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org/donate).

While visiting or attending services, please consider the following guidelines:

* Maintain 6 feet between yourself and the next closest person;
* Refrain from hugs and handshakes;
* When you sneeze or cough, use your elbow to cover your nose and mouth;
* Wash your hands often;
* Avoid touching your face; and
* Minimize time spent in places where people gather.
