Hattie Myrle Ward Ashworth, age 88, passed away July 6, 2024, at her daughter’s home.
She was born February 6, 1936, in Maud, MS the daughter of the late Homer and Emma Lee Lott Ward. She was raised in Hollywood, MS and she attended school in Tunica County, MS. She was married to Roy C. Smith, Sr. in 1954 and later married to Jim Ashworth in 1977. She lived in Memphis, TN Houston, TX and moved to Henderson, TN in 1992. Mr. Ashworth died on July 27, 2010.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Henderson.
Mrs. Ashworth is survived by a son, Roy Smith, Jr. (Deby Lynn) of Eupora, MS; two daughters, Rhonda Bartsch (David) of Henderson and Leesa Settle of Beech Bluff; two brothers, Wilfred Ward (Lynn) of Doniphan, MO and Ricky Ward (Karen) of Collins, MS and two sisters, Ruth Mangrum (Jimmy) of McCool, MS and Cora Clemmer of Spring, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Merin (Jim) Ashworth, (2010), a daughter, Monna Bowers, two brothers, Homer Edward Ward and Thurman Ward and a sister, Elnora Dupree.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Thursday, July 11th at Shackelford Funeral Directors – East Main Chapel with Jimmy Mangrum and Glen Ward officiating and burial will follow at Henderson City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at East Main Chapel 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday and 12:00 PM until 3:00 PM service time Thursday.
