Hartwell Alan Gargis, 59, of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at UAB Hospital after a brief illness.
The visitation will be 5:00pm until 8:00pm Saturday March 22, 2014 at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will be 2:00pm Sunday March 23 at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery. Bruce Blankenship will officiate.
He was born on December 13, 1954, in Sheffield, Alabama, to Hartwell Gargis and Eula Dean Narmore Gargis.
He graduated from Colbert County High School where he was a member of the 1972 State Championship Football team, He also graduated from the University of North Alabama and Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham, Alabama. He was a self-employed attorney- at- law in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hartwell Gargis and Eula Dean Narmore Gargis; and his sister Rose Gargis Blevins Daughtery.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Pullen Gargis; sons William Hartwell Gargis (Megan) and Matthew Alan Gargis; grandchildren Benton Gargis, William Gargis and Aubrey Gargis; sister Betty Freeman; and nephew. Josh Blevins..
Pallbearers will be cousins, Jackie Gargis, David Gargis and Phil Gargis; brother-in-law Jackie Eugene Gargis;and nephews Chase Weatherford and Josh Blevins.
Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Rue, Bobby Harris, and Tommy Godsey
