Harry Hugh Higgins Sr. – Obituary

Harry Hugh Higgins Sr., known as Hugh by all, was born on April 22, 1934 in Waterloo, Alabama. His visitation will be Monday, February 1, 2016 from 1 pm until 2 pm at Morrison Funeral Home, Florence / Central Heights. His funeral service will immediately follow in the funeral home chapel at 2 pm with Jack Woods officiating. Burial will follow in Richardson Cemetery, Waterloo, Alabama.

He was a graduate of Waterloo High School. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army and spent 2 years in Korea. After his military service Hugh was a 35 year employee of and retired from Reynolds Metals Co in Sheffield Alabama. Hugh was an avid hunter and fisherman for years and enjoyed spending time with his family doing these activities.

He is preceded in death by his son, Kevin Neil Higgins. His mother, Vertie Mae, and father Sanford Higgins. He is also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Willis and Fred Higgins and his sister, Ludell Alred.

Hugh is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary Jennelee Catoe Higgins, his son Harry Hugh Higgins Jr., and wife Judy of Sylva, North Carolina. His daughter Susan Claiborne of Jackson, Tennessee. His son Mike Higgins and wife Maureen of Coral Springs, Florida. His daughter Melynda Woods and husband Robert of Waterloo, Alabama. His son Kris Higgins and wife Cindy of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. A sister Sandra Phillips, and husband Bill of Pensacola, Florida. Hugh has 8 grandchildren: Sean Higgins, Tiffany Claiborne, Christopher and Melanie Higgins, Cristy and Chad Woods, and Bryan Craig and Sarah Higgins. Hugh is also leaving behind a faithful pet dog Moo that he loved very much.

Hugh went to be with the Lord on Saturday morning January 30, 2016. Hugh had accepted Jesus as his savior on January 7, 2016. Today Hugh is in a much better place with no pain or sorrow and rejoicing with all saints that have gone before him including his son Kevin Neil. If Hugh would want us to know anything right now, it would be do not weep for me or make a fuss over me. I am in the arms of eternal peace that I hope all can experience one day.

Pallbearers will be Robert and Chad Woods, Bryan Craig, Duane Phillips, Christopher Higgins, and David Knolton.
