Funeral service for Harold Wayne Wright Sr., age 71, of Decatur will be Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at 3 p.m. at Shoal Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Gary Linville officiating with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time on Tuesday at the church. Peck Funeral Home is directing.
Mr. Wright, was born on Feb. 10, 1946, in Limestone County to William Granville Wright and Mattie Lou Griffin Wright. He passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife of 50 years, Carol Wright.
Mr. Wright was a member of the Shoal Creek Baptist Church and taught the special needs class. He retired from Amoco Chemical Company after 25 years of service, and formerly served as an officer of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Decatur. Mr. Wright served in the US Navy and was a Vietnam veteran. He had coached little league baseball and basketball and officiated baseball and basketball, youth league and high school.
He is survived by a son Harold Wayne Wright Jr. (Candy), of Cullman; a daughter, Selena Wright, of Decatur; a brother, Gary Granville Wright, of Somerville; two sisters, Barbara Engren, of Hampton Cove and Beverly Bowling, of Danville; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Wesley Baker, Jared Wray, Lane Dean, Wayne Wright III, Cody Gibbs, and Brian Devillo will serve as pallbearers.
