Harold Wayman Smith of Hatton, Al passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, January 14, 2024 after an extended illness. He was born June 4, 1946, to Montie and Louise Smith. Many knew him as Wayman growing up in the Wolf Springs area until he graduated from Hatton High School in 1965. After honorably serving as a Vietnam Veteran in the Navy from 1965 to 1968, he went by Harold.
A devoted father, Harold leaves behind a lasting legacy through his children: Tina Lane, Kristi Hatton (Devin), Brandon Smith, and Bradley Smith (Kaitlin). His love extended to his cherished grandchildren – Haley Lyons, Kinley Gresham, Bentley Smith, Sadie Grace Smith, and Branson Smith – and his great-grandchild, Grayson Lyons.
Harold is survived by his sister, Carolyn Berryman (the late Gilbert), and fondly remembered by his niece Glenda Garrett (Joe) and nephew Jerry Berryman (Diane), as well as numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. Active as a member and steward of New Liberty Church in Hatton, AL, Harold was known for his vibrant spirit and as a great friend.
A proud Navy veteran, Harold was not only a skilled hunter and avid gun trader and tinkerer but also a passionate collector of Native American antiques. One of his proudest moments was contributing a piece to the Oakville Indian Museum and hand carving “snake sticks” sold at the festival.
Many will remember Harold “Wayman” Smith for his warmth, generosity, and the joy he brought to those around him by always cutting up. May he find eternal peace with our Lord & Savior, and may his memory live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
